Qualification overview
The aim of this course is to provide all course candidates with a firm understanding of the current legislation regarding confined space entry and safe work in a confined space. Including being able to identify the types of confined spaces and their hazards and the ability to enter a confined space and apply the safe and correct procedures for entry into, working within, and the emergency procedure for confined space operations.
Course contents
Confined space identification and hazards – air monitoring, controlling hazards, communications, blowers, emergency retrieval system use, and emergency procedure.
Confined space hazard eliminated, what you need to know, what are hazards, atmospheric hazards, multi gas meter, what is air, carbon dioxide, abbreviations, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, contaminates, physical hazards, lock out tag out system, noise, other atmospheric conditions, and falling objects.
Other hazards – psychological hazards, equipment emergency retrieval, communication, blowers, safety equipments.
Other PPE - protecting confined spaces – emergency response, entry supervisor duties, non-entry rescue, review, positional hazards.
Target participants
Anyone working in or around an area of the workplace meeting the definition of a confined Space should be trained at the awareness level.

What is a confined space?
Any enclosed space where a person is at risk of harm from hazards such as:
- Drowning.
- Entrapment.
- Toxic gases / asphyxiation.
- Fire or explosion.

Can I undertake training at my premises?
Delivery of courses can be undertaken on the employer’s premises where delegate numbers make this practicable and where there is a suitable enclosed space in which to hold practical exercises. We will need to risk assess the facilities beforehand.
Do I need to bring my own PPE (personal protective equipment)?
Yes, bring with you any PPE that you are issued by your employer. For the practical exercises you will need safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, working gloves and high visibility clothing or vest. Please also bring waterproof clothing as in some instances entry may be made outdoors.
